Telco regulation must keep pace with change – ‘Alston’

Former Cabinet Minister in the Howard Government for seven years, Senator Richard Alston, was the architect who pioneered the deregulation of Australia’s telecommunications industry – opening the doors to competition. Since 1997, the telecommunications, Information technology and media industries have changed dramatically with the advent of Social Media, Streaming, Pay TV, Video, data and with abuse of privacy a major concern – but regulation needs to keep pace with the changes.
